Tom Cruise's watch collection, from the silver screen to the red carpet
While researching this article about Tom Cruise's watch collection, one thing struck me: there's no one person in the world who attracts as much attention as he does. Whether he's in his latest movie, Top Gun: Maverick, or attending award shows or other events, people want to know what he's up to. That means there are a lot of photos of Cruise floating around the internet. What's especially amazing is that in the vast majority of photos, he's wearing a different watch - his variety and style are impressive. He's not like Paul Newman who sticks to a single model. So here are some of the top watches in Tom Cruise's collection, and which ones he's been photographed wearing.
Of course, while he owns a fair share of watches, the ones he's most associated with are the ones that have appeared in his favorite Hollywood blockbusters. From several Mission: Impossible movies to the Oscar-nominated Vanilla Sky to heart-thumping watches like Cocktail, Tom Cruise has a lot of watches - and we certainly couldn't miss them.
Porsche Design Chronograph 1
Let’s start with the watch that helped launch Cruise’s career – the Porsche Design Chronograph 1 in the Top Gun movies. The 1986 original is an absolute action-thriller classic, and the sequel released 36 years later is undoubtedly the best movie of 2022. Cruise wore the same Chronograph 1 in both movies, with the same PVD case and ultra-legible display, which is amazing (and stunning) in terms of watch continuity. Granted, Cruise was only the temporary custodian of this watch, as it actually belonged to the film’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer.
Rolex Air-King Continuing with the theme of big-screen watches, Cruise can be seen wearing an extremely lovely silver-dial Rolex Air-King in the 1988 film Cocktail Cruise. If you’re not familiar with the film, it’s a good idea to catch up on it first, as it’s not one of Cruise’s best works – you can read our full review of the Razzie-winning film here. However, if you can look past the plot, you’ll find the Rolex Air-King to be quite fascinating, especially considering that the Rolex name was a lot more famous in the 80s than it is today.
IWC Mark XV
From Tom Cruise’s worst movie to his most psychedelic: 2001’s Vanilla Sky. The Oscar-nominated film revolves around concepts of life, existence and art, so the inclusion of an IWC pilot’s watch Mark XV is a bit of an oddity. A watch built on functionality and pure design, the Mark XV features a black and white military-style display and a 38mm stainless steel case. The watch doesn’t quite fit in with the film’s bombastic concept, but that makes its presence all the more impactful. It’s not the only IWC watch he wears in a movie, either, as he wore an Ingenieur Automatic in 2004’s Collateral.

Cartier Santos de Cartier
This watch is a rare find considering how many red carpets Tom Cruise has walked in his lifetime. Cartier is known for being a favorite of actors at premieres, award shows, and more. However, while we often think of the Cartier Tank, Cruise opted for a larger, sportier model – the Cartier Santos. With its bold square design and thick bezel, it perfectly combines a sporty luxury aesthetic with Cartier’s usual attention to detail and Art Deco style. The medium silver dial model Cruise wears is particularly outstanding.
Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin
While each of the watches we have reviewed so far has its own unique characteristics, they all have one thing in common – they are both functional and sporty. The Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin watch, which Cruise wore at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, was the first haute horlogerie watch we reviewed. It features a 41.5mm white gold case with a deep blue dial that displays the hours, minutes, day, date, month, moon phases and leap year, all powered by the Calibre 1120 QP/1, which, if continuously wound, will not need adjustment until the year 2100.
Rolex Daytona Ref. 1166500LN
One of the most famous watches in his collection is the Rolex Daytona Ref. 1166500LN. You know it. With a 40mm Oystersteel case, black ceramic bezel and white dial embellished with black subdials – not quite the panda shape, but close – it is one of the most coveted Rolex watches of the past decade. Perhaps Tom Cruise and Paul Newman are not as different as we first thought.
Bremont ALT1-C
Cruise's love of watches extends beyond the big Swiss watch brands, and he has even worn some brands that are not well known outside the watch industry. For example, he owns a Bremont ALT1-C Aviation Chronograph, a watch from the British pilot watch brand. It has a 43mm diameter stainless steel case and is powered by the Calibre 13 1/4-inch BE-50AE automatic movement (based on the ETA 7750 movement) with a power reserve of 42 hours.
Panerai Luminor Marina PAM00299
Panerai is known for being particularly large, and therefore loved by men with larger bodies that match their size. Cruise proved that this is not always the case, and although the Luminor Marina watch is slightly smaller, it looks particularly comfortable on his wrist. Interestingly, this Panerai is one of the few dive watches in his collection, and he obviously prefers tool watches designed for the sky rather than the sea.
The rest of the people
While Tom Cruise is as action hero as ever on screen, he is actually 60 years old, which means he has been in the industry for a long, long time. There are so many movies, red carpets and photo shoots that it is impossible to list every watch he wore in his life.
Some standouts include the Cartier Calibre de Cartier chronograph, the Tudor Heritage chronograph (from Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol), the GMT-Master Chronodiver chronograph, and six Rolex watches such as the GMT-Master II, Sky-Dweller, Datejust and Day-Date (from Rain Man). There are many more worth mentioning, such as the Jacob Epic II chronograph, the TAG Heuer S/EL Quartz chronograph (from Jerry Maguire) or the Casio G-Shock W-5300 (from Mission: Impossible).
