PHILADELPHIA -- The music is blasting and the Philadelphia Phillies are having fun again. Theres plenty to celebrate these days. Chase Utley walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning, lifting Philadelphia to a 4-3 comeback victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night. It was the fifth win in six games for the Phillies, who have won four of those contests in their last at-bat, including the last three. "Anytime you have walk-off (wins), it creates excitement and right now its carrying over to the next day," Phillies interim manager Ryne Sandberg said. The music blared in the Philadelphia clubhouse following the game - something that hasnt been the case for most of this disappointing season. "Were playing together and having fun in here, being able to go out on the field believing in each other," Philadelphia left-hander Cole Hamels said. "Were taking that direction and have to keep pushing in that direction as long as we possibly can." Cody Asche led off the ninth with a single and went to third on Jimmy Rollins single. Heath Bell (4-2) intentionally walked Michael Young to load the bases for Kevin Frandsen. After striking out Frandsen, Bell was lifted for left-hander Eury De La Rosa. De La Rosa ran the count to 3-2 and Utley walked when the final pitch appeared to be a bit inside. "We were trying to work both sides of the plate," Diamondbacks catcher Tuffy Gosewisch said. "The last pitch started out, then came in and barely missed." Darin Ruf homered for the second straight game for Philadelphia, which improved to 5-3 under Sandberg. Ruf has eight homers and 12 RBIs in 21 games this month. Matt Davidson had two hits and an RBI for the Diamondbacks, who have dropped four of five, damaging their fleeting playoff hopes. They stayed seven games back of the Reds for the second NL wild-card spot. "They just got it done in the ninth," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said. Jonathan Papelbon (4-1) pitched a scoreless ninth for the win. The Phillies jumped to a 1-0 lead on Rufs two-out homer in the second. The Diamondbacks answered with three runs in the fourth off hard-luck Hamels. Paul Goldschmidt was credited with a double after left fielder Domonic Brown lost his routine fly ball in the lights as twilight fell. Martin Prado drove in Goldschmidt and Adam Eaton with a two-run double, and Davidsons RBI single put Arizona ahead 3-1. "We got a big break on the ball lost in the lights, but we couldnt tack on," Gibson said. That was it for the Diamondbacks against Hamels, who allowed six hits and walked one in seven innings. The left-hander has a 1.89 ERA in his last five starts but just one win and four no-decisions over that stretch. Hamels, who entered with the fifth-lowest run support average among starters in the majors (3.30), remained 5-13 on the season. "Ultimately, you dont want it to come down to the last at-bat, but winning is winning," Hamels said. "Im glad were able to battle and stay with it. Its a good feeling to have something going the right way." The Phillies tied it when Carlos Ruiz hit a two-run double off Wade Miley in the sixth. That was the last inning for Miley, who yielded five hits and two walks. The Phillies threatened in the eighth against Bell, putting runners on first and second with two outs. But Bell struck out John Mayberry Jr. swinging to end the inning. The Diamondbacks got a runner to second with two outs in the ninth off Papelbon, but Cliff Pennington flew out to centre to end the threat. NOTES: Arizonas J.J. Putz dislocated his pinky finger in the seventh inning trying to field Rollins grounder to shortstop. Putz will be placed on the disabled list on Saturday. . Ruiz went 2 for 4, raising his average to .600 (12 for 20) in his last six games. . The three-game series resumes Saturday night when Phillies RHP Ethan Martin (2-2, 5.23 ERA) opposes RHP Randall Delgado (4-4, 3.82 ERA). ... Vaives lawyer Trevor Whiffen claims the former 50-goal man wasnt provided with a copy of the claim beforehand and that he would not have agreed to the allegations made against the NHL had he been asked to review its contents.HAMILTON, Ont. -- The St. Johns IceCaps weathered a wild first period with the help of goaltender Jussi Olkinuora, before finding offensive inroads in the second. Olkinuora made 16 saves in the first period, and 30 overall, for his first professional shutout, as the IceCaps defeated Hamilton Bulldogs 3-0 Saturday in American Hockey League action. The goaltender deflected attention from his own accomplishment, and instead complimented his teammates on their recent form. "It feels good," said Olkinuora of his shutout. "But more importantly, it feels good to win again. Its a lot of fun. "The guys have found a way to play effectively and be tough to play. Weve been making smart decisions with the puck, and its fun to play behind these guys." Kael Mouillerat, Carl Klingberg and Eric ODell scored for the IceCaps (15-10-3). Dustin Tokarski stopped 36 shots for the Bulldogs (12-12-3) . The Bulldogs got the better of an entertaining first period in which both teams enjoyed quality scoring chances. A giveaway at the defensive blue line by Hamilton winger Nick Tarnasky gave Jerome Samson room to operate along the right wing. The St. Johns forward moved in to the hashmarks and released a rising wrist shot that beat Tokarski but rang off his near post. Just over ten minutes into the first period, another Tarnasky giveaway sent the IceCaps into the Bulldogs zone on a 2-on-1 break, but Tokarski was alert in sliding to his left and snaring the one-time shot with his glove. Tarnasky found himself in the spotlight once again with 4:17 to play in the first period, when he enjoyed Hamiltons best opportunity to score the games first goal. A cross-ice pass found him posted just outside Olkinuoras crease at the right post, but Tarnasky couldnt corral the puck, and the goaltender recovered and sprawled to deny the chance. Olkinuora enjoyed the heavy workload in the opening period, and argued that it helped him to find his rhythm on Saturday. "You could say that it gets you into the game," he said. "Every game is different, but I do enjoy games where you can get into the action pretty early and often. Obviously, I dont tell the guys that." The IceCaps enjjoyed a lengthy two-man advantage early in the second period, as Maxime Macenauer was whistled for slashing at 2:43 and Mike Blunden followed with a delay of game infraction 22 seconds later.dddddddddddd Tokarski was sharp in denying St. Johns on multiple occasions, as Hamilton held the visitors off the scoreboard over the course of the 5-on-3. There was little for the goaltender to do, however, when the IceCaps opened the scoring at 7:48 of the second period. Samsons initial slap shot was kicked aside by Tokarski, but fell to Mouillerat in the low slot, and he circled the fallen goaltender and slid a shot inside the near post as Tokarski dove unsuccessfully to meet it. The IceCaps made it 2-0 at 14:35 of the second, when Carl Klingberg converted his second breakaway opportunity of the game. Latching onto a loose puck in the neutral zone, the St. Johns forward shifted from his backhand to his forehand side and slid the puck past Tokarski. Hamilton coach Sylvain Lefebvre bemoaned his teams inability to gain momentum in the second period, even after successfully killing the two-man advantage. "We played well in the first, but in the second, penalties killed us," he said. "Usually when you kill a 5-on-3, you have good chances to win the game. We just couldnt get the momentum, and when you take too many penalties, it taxes some of the players and others sit on the bench and wait." St. Johns struck early in the third period to extend its lead to 3-0 and put the game out of reach. The initial point shot by Brenden Kichton was saved by Tokarski, but the rebound bounced to ODell, who easily slotted the puck into the open net at 3:54. Olkinuora made an exceptional save to preserve his shutout bid with 3:21 to play, picking Martin St. Pierres close-range wrist shot out of the air with his glove. The goaltender pointed to improved breakouts and decision-making as the factors that improved his teams play in the final two periods. "I think our guys made an adjustment and a push," said Olkinuora. "We had over 20 shots in the second period and its all because we found a way to go out of our zone cleaner, and we made smarter decisions."
