SAINT JOHN, N.B. - Sebastien Auger made 44 saves as the Saint John Sea Dogs edged the visiting Acadie-Bathurst Titan 2-1 on Saturday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action. Auger was at his best in the third period when he stopped all 18 shots he faced to preserve the one-goal victory. Stephen Anderson and Spencer Smallman scored for the Sea Dogs (2-1-0) while Oliver Cooper assisted on both. Dominic Beauchemin had the lone goal for the Titan (2-1-0) as Mason McDonald turned away 32-of-34 shots in defeat. Beauchemin opened the scoring off a pass from Robert Pelletier 11:35 into the first period, however Smallman responded for Saint John six minutes later to even the score after 20 minutes of play. After a scoreless second period Anderson broke a 1-1 tie at 9:45 of the third with a power-play goal to put the Sea Dogs ahead. Any chance for Acadie-Bathurst to tie the game was shut down by Auger, who came up big on the penalty kill after Jeremy Doucet went to the box for tripping at 16:47 Saint John went 1 for 7 on the power play while the Titan failed to score on five chances with the man advantage. After outshooting the Utica Comets 17-7 in the opening period, the Bulldogs had nothing to show for it on the scoreboard. Instead, the Bulldogs conceded the games first goal early in the second period, and dropped their fourth consecutive decision, and fifth in their past six games. "We played a good first period, and to come out with no score after one, maybe we deserved a better fate," said Hamilton head coach Sylvain Lefebvre. "But in the second period, we didnt play well at all. "In the third, when they scored their goal, it looked like we put our heads down instead of rolling up our sleeves." The Swiss rookie has taken hold of a spot in Hamiltons top six, and said that he is looking to repay his coachs faith in him. Utica retook the lead with another fortunate bounce, as Peter Anderssons low shot from the point deflected off the skate of Morgan Ellis and straight to Grenier on the right wing, and he easily slotted a wrist shot past Tokarski at 2:59 of the third. A flurry in front of the Comets net with nine minutes to play seemed destined to yield a Bulldog equalizer, but neither Akim Aliu nor Ben Duffy could bat a bouncing puck past Eriksson.
