OLIVA, Spain -- In a game that had tackles flying in from start to finish, Canada picked up a scoreless draw against Mauritania on Sunday in what was the debut for new national team coach Benito Floro. "At the moment we are teaching how to play collectively," said Floro, who is tasked with rebuilding the program in the build up to qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in two years time. "Its necessary to play a lot between us and to test with the friendly matches. But I understand its very difficult to get a result against a very good national team like Mauritania, who press very excellently." The game started under hot, but windy conditions, but grew more comfortable as the afternoon progressed. Mauritania pressured Canada relentlessly in the opening few minutes, many times getting overly physical. "It was a friendly but definitely very physical," said midfielder Atiba Hutchinson, who was captain for this game. "I think we expected that a little bit but maybe at times it was a little out of hand but no excuses. I think we need to look at the video after the game and we have to play them in another game and its important that we can come back and get a result in the next game." With more than 30 players in camp, Canada dressed 18 for the game, and save for their teammates that didnt play, a delegation from the Mauritanian embassy in Spain, and a few curious locals, there werent many people there to take in the game at the resort where both teams are camped. A young Canadian team looked shaky early as the quick Mauritanian side pressured the ball. "I think we just needed to be a little bit more calm and maybe read the game at times," said Hutchinson. "I think at halftime the coaches said we need to play in behind them and find the pockets and create space. In the second half I thought we did that a bit better." On more than one occasion, the West Africans got a bit carried away as midfielders Kyle Bekker and Kyle Porter went down under heavy challenges just past the 10-minute mark. The rest of the game was defined by lots of shirt-pulling and hard tackles as words were exchanged between both sets of players on numerous occasions. The best chance of the game came in the 21st minute. Toronto FC midfielder Jonathan Osorio collected a pass from club teammate Ashtone Morgan before cutting inside and unleashing a fiercely struck right-footed curling effort that had to be tipped over for a corner kick. "They made it difficult to develop our attack. But its a good test for us," said Floro. "For us, the best was our good intention to combine the play even if the opponent pressed very hard. So we need some good behaviour to start to understand perfectly to combine the attack." Making his debut on the bench, Floro was mostly silent, only rising once or twice to direct his new team. It was a stark contrast to his counterpart, Frenchman Patrice Neveu, who barely took time to draw breath as he barked orders for almost the entire 90 minutes. Canada controlled the possession for much of the second half and in the early few moments looked like they could get a goal. But apart from a Dwayne De Rosario effort that was easily saved three minutes into the second half, there wasnt much offence on either end. "In the second half I thought we did that a bit better," said Hutchinson. "We were just missing the chances. We needed to create more chances and get some shots on target and possibly goals. Well have a couple training sessions and its important we get a result next time." The two teams play again on Tuesday. Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale . The 20-year-old Pelicans big man glanced up and smiled widely at the well-wishers -- a fitting end to a day he wont soon forget. Davis responded to his selection earlier in the day as a Western Conference All-Star with 26 points and 10 rebounds, and the New Orleans Pelicans overcame a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat the Minnesota Timberwolves 98-91 on Friday night. Having two big pieces back is going to be a key for us moving forward for years to come," said Knighthawks head coach Mike Hasen. http://www.cheapnflonlinejerseys.com/ . Coach Mike Munchak says Fokou stretched ligaments in his left knee Oct. 13 against Seattle, which could keep out up to five weeks even though the linebacker didnt need surgery. Cheap NFL Jerseys . "Trying to breathe," he said with a grin. Bernier stopped 42 of 43 shots on Monday night, including all 22 in a hectic middle frame, his heroic performance propelling the Leafs toward an undue point in their final game before the Christmas break. Traded from Seattle to Baltimore on Aug. 30, Morse also can play first base and right field to give manager Bruce Bochy some flexibility in writing his lineup.RENTON, Wash. - Somewhere along the way, "pedestrian" became a favoured word for the Seattle Seahawks receivers. Doug Baldwin, Jermaine Kearse and Golden Tate each used the word in some fashion after the Seahawks beat San Francisco to win the NFC championship Sunday. It was their way of responding to critics who have panned Seattles receiving corps as one of the weak points in the Seahawks roster. "It irritates the hell out of me when weve got guys who constantly want to talk about our receiving corps," Baldwin said after the 23-17 win over the 49ers. "Talking about were average. Were pedestrian. Were going to walk our ... to the Super Bowl. Pedestrians." Seattles receiving crew was supposed to have more experience and be considered a strength before the season began. Thats when the Seahawks were expected to have Percy Harvin and Sidney Rice as their starters, with Baldwin, Tate and Kearse filling secondary roles as extra receivers catching passes from Russell Wilson. But then Harvin missed 15 of 16 regular-season games following hip surgery in August and Rice was lost for the year after Week 8 with a knee injury. Its left an unheralded, underappreciated group as Seattles pass catching options. And while they despise being cast as a weak link, they also are more than happy to use those slights as motivation. Perhaps no player feeds off the negativity more than Baldwin. Before the NFC title game, the undrafted free agent out of Stanford talked about carrying a "boulder" around on his shoulder, not a chip. Then he made sure to note that pundits on Sunday morning were again pointing to Seattles receivers as the reason Wilson and the pass game had been struggling. "They were talking about Russell Wilson was struggling and the reason he was struggling was his receiving corps was appetizers," Baldwin said. "Ill take that. Ill be an appetizer. But thats a good ... appetizer if you ask me." Baldwin responded with one of the best games in his career on Sunday. He finished with six catches for 106 yards — the second-most in his three seasons — including a 51-yard reception in the first half that helped loosen the 49eers defence.dddddddddddd But he wasnt alone. Tate had four receptions and Kearse made one of the biggest catches in his young career. On fourth-and-7 early in the fourth quarter, Wilsons hard count got the 49ers to jump into the neutral zone. Knowing it was a free play, Seattles receivers broke off the original routes and headed vertical to the end zone. Kearse was able to get a step on Carlos Rogers and pulled in a 35-yard TD pass from Wilson with 13:44 left that gave Seattle a 20-17 lead that the Seahawks did not relinquish. "When you run a route you got to always expect that the ball could come to you. But when the ball is in the air its all instinct, its all play-making ability," Kearse said. "Russ threw a good ball at me, it just shows the trust he has in us and you know well just try to make the best of every opportunity." Then later, prodded by Baldwin, Kearse followed the line in the wide receivers room. "Im just a pedestrian trying to walk my way to the Super Bowl," he said. What makes Seattles group of receivers unique is the lack of credentials. Take Harvin out of the equation, and of Seattles top five receivers, four were undrafted: Baldwin, Kearse, Ricardo Lockette and Bryan Walters. Tate was the only draftee, taken in the second round in 2010. Its another example of general manager John Schneiders ability to unearth hidden talents, but the group also comes with a built-in motivation to prove wrong anyone who overlooked or undervalued their potential. They also play in an offence where numbers will never be extraordinary. Only four times in 18 regular and post-season games this season did Seattle attempt 30 or more passes. Three times they didnt even attempt 20 throws. That leaves limited opportunities when the offence calls for the tight end and running backs to be involved in the pass game as well. And all that is without Harvin, who is expected to have recovered from a concussion in time for the Super Bowl. "At the end of the day, we want to be a team that makes the big play when we need to," Wilson said. "Always make the consistent ones, but make the big play when we need to, and the guys have done that all year."
