A 29-year-old right-hander, Boggs helped St. Louis win the 2011 World Series title and was 4-1 with a 2.21 ERA in 78 relief appearances for the Cardinals in 2012. He took over as the closer at the start of last season after Jason Motte got hurt, walked 15 in 14 2-3 innings as he converted two of five save chances.
