Honolulu, HI (SportsNetwork. Nike Free Flyknit Chukka .com) - Paul Casey and Webb Simpson opened up with matching 8-under 62s in Thursdays first round and they share a 1-shot lead at the Sony Open in Hawaii. Casey is a 13-time winner on the European Tour, but his lone victory on the PGA Tour came at the 2009 Houston Open. Simpson, the 2012 U.S. Open champion, is a 4-time winner on tour, with the last one coming at last seasons Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Robert Streb, a winner at the McGladrey Classic in October, continues to play well this season as he is tied for third with Camilo Villegas after the duo began the week with 7-under 63s at Waialae Country Club. Rory Sabbatini carded a 6-under 64 on Thursday and he is alone in fifth. Jason Day, Matt Kuchar, John Peterson, Tim Clark, J.J. Henry and Jonathan Randolph are all tied for sixth at 5-under 65. Defending champion Jimmy Walker had a solid first round and his 4-under 66 has him tied for 12th with 10 others. Playing the back nine first, Casey started off on the right foot with a birdie on 10 before running off three straight pars from No. 11. On the 14th hole, Casey drained an 18-foot birdie putt to get to 2-under for the round. Following a pair of pars on 15 and 16, Casey went on a big run when he made five straight birdies from No. 17, putting him at minus-7. After exchanging a gain on No. 5 for his first and only bogey on No. 6, Casey made two more pars before closing things out with his ninth birdie on the par-5 ninth, giving him the clubhouse lead. I dont know what to say. I mean, Im ecstatic, Casey said. First, Im loving being in Hawaii. I have not been here for a long time. The last time I was here was 2010 when I played in Maui, and its just, its great to be back. Ive been in the Middle East for so long, and I chose to come over here. I had no idea what to expect today, so Im over the moon with that. Simpson, also playing the back nine first, played his first ever PGA Tour event with a short putter, having used a belly putter for more than 10 years. The change did not hinder Simpson at all as he got off to a quick start by making a 5-foot birdie putt on No. 10. After a bogey on 12, Simpson ran off five straight pars from 13 before going on a huge run. In fact, Simpson used his hot putter to make eight birdies over his final 10 holes from 18, with the lone pars coming on Nos. 5 and 8. Simpson needed just 10 putts on the front nine, his back. Today was a big day for me, said Simpson. It was one of my best putting rounds Ive ever had to be honest ... I made a lot of putts. I didnt hit it great on the back nine, my first nine holes, but then started driving it well. If you drive it well around this golf course, youre going to give yourself opportunities. Streb had an up-and-down front nine, which featured an eagle on No. 9, three birdies and two bogeys. On the back side, Streb made a trio of birdies from No. 10 to go along with another gain at the last to jump into a tie for second place. Villegas did most of his work on the front nine with six birdies and three pars. It was a quiet back nine for Villegas as he wrapped eight pars around a birdie on the par-4 16th. NOTES: A score of 62 is a career best for Simpson, who needed just 23 putts to complete his first round ... Streb already has a win and a total of four top-10 finishes in six events on tour this season ... Streb leads the tour with 108 birdies this season ... Geoff Ogilvy had a hole-in-one on the par-3 fourth hole. Nike Free 6.0 V2 .The International Biathlon Union has been gathering information since vice-president Gottlieb Taschler of Italy temporarily stepped down on Saturday amid media reports he is under criminal investigation for helping his son Daniel obtain doping substances from banned doctor Michele Ferrari.AVONDALE, Ariz. -- Kevin Harvick had a nice send-off with Richard Childress Racing, winning his penultimate race with the team at Phoenix International Raceway. Back at Phoenix four months later, he stamped his arrival at Stewart-Haas Racing by winning the second race with his new team -- doing it on the same weekend he celebrated his 13th wedding anniversary, no less. Yeah, Harvick kind of likes it here in the desert. Disappointed at the Daytona 500 after a last-lap crash, Harvick bounced back quickly by charging to the front and dominating the rest of the way Sunday to win consecutive races at PIR with different teams. "Man, this is awesome," Harvick said. Harvick won the fall race after Carl Edwards ran out of fuel at the white flag. He needed no help Sunday. Harvick had the fastest car in practice and kept it rolling in the race, charging to the front after starting 13th and pretty much staying there. He led 224 of 312 laps on the odd-shaped mile oval and pulled away on several late restarts for his fifth NASCAR Sprint Cup victory at PIR, passing Jimmie Johnson for the most at the track. Not bad for someone whos still trying to feel his way around with a new team and new crew chief Rodney Childers. "It took long enough," SHR co-owner Gene Haas joked. "This phenomenal. I think there was a lot of skepticism last year about what myself and Tony (Stewart) what we were up to, was there a lot of madness to this. Quite frankly, its a great team, theres a lot of synergy at the shop, people working together. I dont know what we did, but I think we put together a great organization." Daytona 500 winner Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished second, pole sitter Brad Keselowski was third and Penske Racing teammate Joey Logano fourth. Jeff Gordon rounded out the top five on a warm and partly cloudy day after downpours wiped out the final 32 laps of Saturdays Nationwide race, won by Kyle Busch Harvick won at Phoenix during the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship in the fall, giving him an outside shot at catching Johnson for the series title in his final season with Richard Childress Racing. He came up short, but the victory and a third-place finish in the standings gave him a bit of momentum heading into for his first season with Stewart-Haas. Harvick had a solid finish in his sights at Daytona last week before a last-lap crash dropped him to 13th. At Phoenix, Haarvick just missed the final stage of knockout qualifying, nipped by 0. Nike Free 4.0 Flyknit cz. 001 seconds, but had the fastest car in Saturday mornings final practice session. He had no trouble making his way through the field after the green flag dropped in the race, passing Keselowski on the apron, then Logano for the lead on lap 74. Harvick maintained the lead coming out of green-flag pit stops with just under 200 laps left and again with about 70 laps left. A series of cautions came out late in the race and Harvick easily pulled away each time to earn a quick win with SHR a nice capper to his anniversary weekend with wife DeLana. "Im just the lucky guy who gets to drive around the race track when they have dialed in like they did today," Harvick said. "We were able to put it altogether." Earnhardt had a whirlwind week after winning his second Daytona 500, needing his girlfriend to get him extra clothes while he went on a media tour. He had a solid follow-up, putting the distractions aside to qualify fifth. Earnhardt worked his way up in the opening third of the race, passing Logano and Keselowski to pull up behind Harvick. He dropped back a couple times and fought back to get Harvick within his sights again, but didnt have enough to track him down. "Ive got to congratulate Kevin. Those guys were two-tenths faster than everyone all weekend in practice. They were just phenomenal," Earnhardt said. "To be able to run with them all day was a big confidence builder for us." NASCARs new knockout qualifying system made its Sprint Cup debut at Phoenix and Keselowski came out on top, edging Logano for his fourth career pole. Not long after that, Keselowski found out he would be without his crew chief for the race; Paul Wolfe left the desert back to North Carolina for the birth of his first child. With team engineer Brian Wilson and its Nationwide Series competition director Greg Erwin at the helm, Keselowski ran near the front all day, but, like everyone else, didnt have the speed to keep up with Harvick. "They beat everybody before they came to the track today," Keselowski said. "Its a great combination. They were prepared for the weekend. To me, Randy Childers is like a rubber-stamp, carbon-copy of Paul Wolfe. Hes a great crew chief and it was just a matter of time before he found a combination that he excelled with."
