MELBOURNE, Australia -- Two-time cancer survivor Jarrod Lyle made the weekend cut in the Australian Masters in his first event in 20 month. Lyle followed his opening 72 and with a 71 on Friday to reach 1-over 143 at Royal Melbourne. The Australian hadnt played a tournament since a second bout with myeloid leukemia in early 2012 after having first fought off the disease when he was 17. The 32-year-old Lyle said his legs felt heavy but he would draw on his "fighting instinct" to finish the weekend. "If I have to crawl those last 18 holes, Im crawling them," Lyle said. "Nothings going to stop me from finishing." Lyle, then a regular on the U.S. PGA Tour, was diagnosed with leukemia in March 2012 just before the birth of daughter Lusi. Lyles wife, Briony, became pregnant despite medical advice that Lyles first bout of cancer and the resulting chemotherapy would leave him sterile. "The second half of the game, I think we were the better team," Nilsson said. "I think as long as we can play like that for the full 60 minutes then we can win some more hockey games." Boulton scored his first goal in 73 games to get the Islanders within one goal 2:39 into the third. Boulton was alone in front when the puck trickled through off a faceoff, and he backhanded it past Mason. Tavares had a chance to tie it a few minutes later but Mason made the save. The Islanders had several chances before Berube called a timeout and calmed his team down. "We were on our heels, but we did what we needed to do to get the win," Berube said.
