LJUBLJANA, Slovenia -- France, Lithuania and Serbia have each advanced to the quarterfinals of the European basketball championship, with France and Lithuania winning their games Friday and Serbia moving on despite a loss to Ukraine. France cruised past Latvia 102-91 and Lithuania beat Belgium 86-67. Frances victory also cleared the way for Serbia and Lithuania to advance. Pooh Jeter carried Ukraine to an 82-75 victory over Serbia and revived his teams hopes of also making the quarterfinals, depending on the results of the final day of second-round play Saturday. The American-born point guard scored 20 points and made several key baskets with the game on the line as Ukraine bounced back from a 34-point loss to Latvia. "The team effort was what won the game for us," said Jeter, the brother of American sprinter Carmelita Jeter. "Latvia really punched us and caught us off-balance. But going against a powerhouse like Serbia we knew that we could win it. Everybody else doubted us. Everybody else counted us out. But we as a team believed that we could get this win." Maxym Korniyenko added 21 points and eight rebounds for Ukraine. Serbia improved to 3-1, while Ukraine moved to 2-2. The Serbs will next play France and Ukraine meets Lithuania in their final second-round games. Latvia takes on Belgium and needs to win to have a chance of advancing. France is also 3-1 and Latvia is 2-2. Alexis Ajinca scored 25 points for France, which led by as many as 22 before slowing down in the final quarter, allowing Latvia to pull within nine. But San Antonio Spurs star Tony Parker finished with 23 points to help France slow the rally, while Nicolas Batum of the Portland Trail Blazers added 19 points and 10 rebounds. "We controlled the game but they never gave up," Ajinca said. Dairis Bertans led all scorers with 28 points for Latvia. "We trailed by 20 at halftime and against a team such as France its hard to come back from such a margin," Latvia guard Janis Blums said. "But we are still alive." Jeter hit a 3-pointer at the end of the third quarter to give Ukraine a nine-point lead, which increased to 11 at the start of the fourth. With Serbia trying to close the gap, Jeter sank back-to-back 3s, added a jumper and then a steal before making one of two free throws. The flurry put Ukraine up by eight with 1:05 remaining. "We knew that if we wanted to win we had to play our best game at both ends of the court," Ukraine coach Mike Fratello said. "Today we had the energy and the effort and we came back from the embarrassment against Latvia." Toronto Raptors centre Jonas Valanciunas scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Lithuania, which appears likely to clinch one of the top four places in its group. "We used our big guys real well and that was the key," said Lithuania power forward Mindaugas Kuzminskas, who added 12 points and eight rebounds. Jonathan Tabu led Belgium with 15 points. "We missed some open shots at the beginning but we knew the scoring would come," Lithuania coach Jonas Kazlauskas said. Serbia struggled with 11 turnovers -- Ukraine scored 15 points off the giveaways -- and shot 50 per cent (12-of-24) from the free throw line. "We were fortunate. Things happen on the court, like they drop the ball at half court, that you cant explain," Fratello said. Bjelica, who led Serbia with 22 points, 10 rebounds and four assists, acknowledged that his team had underestimated Ukraine after its big loss to Latvia. "Jeter gave us a lot of problems, he hit a lot of easy baskets," Bjelica said. http://www.thenflapparelsshop.com/Dallas-Cowboys-D...en-Jers ey/ . Arsenal failed to take full advantage of its main rivals stumbles on Saturday as substitute Gerard Deulofeu levelled with a hard shot from a tight angle in the 84th minute to give Everton a deserved point. Ahead of a crucial fortnight that will see them play against Napoli in the Champions League, Manchester City and Chelsea, Arsenal leads by five points ahead of Liverpool and Chelsea. GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Phoenix Coyotes capped a strange night with whats become their best attribute: Resiliency. Shane Doan scored his second goal to cap a rally late in regulation and the Phoenix Coyotes scored on both attempts in the shootout to end Washingtons five-game winning streak with a 4-3 victory Saturday night. "We talked about in the last five minutes, we just need one to give us a chance at another one," Doan said. "We count on so many guys thats what makes it so fun to be on this team." The Coyotes gave the NHLs best power play far too many chances, didnt capitalize enough on the numerous chances they got and generally found ways to get in their own way until late in regulation. They still found a way to win it. Phoenix took an early lead on Doans first goal, then gave up three goals in a strange second period that included a penalty for too many men on the ice by Washington while it was on a power play and a rare delay of game call against Phoenix goalie Mike Smith for playing the puck across the red line. Trailing 3-1 and with several fans heading for the exits, Phoenix picked up the pace in the third period and rallied with goals by Lauri Korpikoski, who scored as he was falling to the ice, and Doans fourth goal in three games on a power play with 1:46 left. Antoine Vermette and Mikkel Boedker scored in the shootout and Washington failed on its two attempts to lose for the first time in five shootouts. Phoenix has won six of seven. "It was a weird game," Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said. "Well take the points and move on." Washington rallied after giving up the early goal, surviving a string of penalties in the second period to take a 3-1 lead. Troy Brouwer and John Carlson both scored on the power play -- thats seven in three games for the Caps -- and Joel Ward added his seventh of the season late. The Capitals just couldnt finish off the scrappy Coyotes, unable to capitalize on a couple of two-man advantages, giving up the two late goals and failing to even get a shot off on one shootout attempt. "We got a point, Im sure were not happy right now, but well just recharge it for tomorrow," Washington coach Adam Oates said. Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals hadnt played in the desert since 2011 so theere was plenty of anticipation in the Valley of the Sun for this one.dddddddddddd It certainly didnt hurt that both teams have been playing well; Washington had outscored opponents 17-6 during a four-game winning streak and Phoenix had won five of six. The Caps forte has been special teams; theyre the NHLs best on the power play and the penalty kill. The Coyotes didnt have any trouble against Washingtons penalty kill early, scoring 22 seconds into their first chance with the man advantage midway through the first period. Doan got it, gathering a rebound off a shot by Keith Yandle and flipping a wrister past Michal Neuvirth. The Coyotes got themselves in trouble after that with a march to the penalty box. Phoenix killed off the first two penalties, but Brouwer scored 38 seconds into the second period when he was left alone at Phoenixs blue line and beat Smith with a hard shot from the right circle. Jordan Szwarz went into the box three minutes later for high-sticking and Washington needed 19 seconds to capitalize, going up 2-1 on a shot from the slot by Carlson after some quick passing. A carousel to the penalty box followed, including six straight power play minutes for Phoenix and the call against Smith, who played the puck across the red line as he was skating off for an extra attacker. Once the chaos ended, Ward put the Capitals up 3-1 with a one-timer from along the goal line after the puck squirted his direction. Washington appeared to be in control, but Korpikoski scored on a backhander as he was falling to the ice and Doan scored for the seventh time in eight games with a wrister after Caps rookie Nate Schmidt was called for delay of game for sending the puck over the glass from his own end. "Too many penalties just in general," Oates said. "You know its going come back and bite you and it did."
